MY LEFT EAR
During the 'medical calamity' (2023) I described in 'In Trudeau's Kitchen', I woke up one morning after something like 12 hours sleep, feeling like something had happened to my ears, primarily my left ear. It just felt different. Not too painful, but very agitated and worn out, like something strange had occurred while I was sleeping.
Thereafter, I would occasionally notice that it would feel very hot and hardened in an area behind the left ear. The best way to describe it is that the area felt like something had activated it. And then hours later, it would feel itchy and dry (similar to but not the same as eczema), like it had been through something. When I came back to stay in the apartment in Guelph this winter, I would notice these symptoms on most mornings. It wouldn't happen when I was out in the world running around. It would appear to happen in the night, while I was laying still, for reasons unknown to me.
I went to a hospital emergency in York Region a few months ago, but the Doctor went weird, telling me he had better things to do (though I was the only one in his 'minor injuries' section) and that they don't have an ultrasound at Mackenzie Health. He also said that there was no value in getting an X-ray because its all bone around the ear. The fact that I told him that the discomfort was at the back of the ear, and that there had been blood inside both ears, didn't seem to faze him. He wasn't giving me an X-ray.
I went to see my actual Doctor, and he agreed to arrange an X-ray of my ears. I completed that last week, and have heard nothing since. Today, I was feeling the same after-effects as before: hot, dry, agitated. And I could literally feel a hardened row of tissue, or something strangely similar. So, I asked someone I saw begging for money in Brampton to do me a favour and take a picture behind both ears for comparison's sake. I also asked him to quickly check with his hands, and he said that the area behind the left ear was hard rather than soft. I gave him $20 for his trouble.
Anybody with a medical orientation that can make sense of this? (3 pics taken today below.) It’s not dirt. Does that look like stitches, or scars to you?
thank you, Jeff

Tea tree oil often helps things that look like that. Just apply 3 drops every few hours for a day or two. And Happy Summer Solstice! đŸ˜€
Perhaps go see a dermatologist. Speaking as someone who suffers from stupidly odd skin conditions which amp up anytime I'm under stress -- and yes, ear creases are included in my portfolio, LOL -- I actually got some relief from this type of irritation after seeing the doctor's Physician's Assistant (the term here in the US) and never needed to see the doctor. She was a great help. Good luck, it's terribly irritating and often affects sleep quality.
