Find a comfortable and cozy place to sit. Rest your feet firmly on the floor. Use a journal to make notes, or answer these questions internally. Ponder the following inquiries:
• What does true-path mean for you?
• Do you feel aligned with your sacred purpose?
• What is your relationship to the little voice that knows? Is it far away, or is it close at hand?
• Do you hear a little voice whisper to you when you’re doing something that doesn’t feel true to path?
• Do you honor that voice, or do you postpone it, push it aside, layer it over, dull or diminish its conviction? Do you bury it beneath an endless flurry of activity, or do you listen in and take heed?
• What does your intuition tell you about the life you are living—is it true to path?
• Does your life honor your callings and gifts?
• Have you touched upon a calling that longs to be expressed?
• If so, what were you called to?
• Was the call honored, or does it remain unactualized?
• If the latter, what holds you back: Beliefs? Fears? Isolation? Laziness? Circumstances? Illness? Hopelessness? Unresolved grief or anger?
• What has to change before you can see it through?
• Are you engaged in work or life-activities that ignite and inspire you?
• Are your relationships a reflection of your growing edge?
• If there is a gap, as there is for most of us, between the life you are living and the life you are born to live, what do you feel has to shift before you can bridge that gap?
• What, if anything, stands in your way?
After pondering these questions, position yourself in front of a mirror. Often when we look in the mirror, we are more interested in how we look to the world. Try it differently this time. Look at yourself with intimacy—“in to me see.” Gaze deeply into your own eyes. Hold the gaze as long as you can. Heartfully inquire: What do my eyes say about the journey of my soul?
Now, try to imagine yourself in your most actualized form, and ponder these questions:
• How would you walk if you were living your purpose?
• How would you interact? How would you relate to others?
• How would you connect to the moment?
• How would your eyes look?
• What would your facial expressions reveal?
• How would you interface with your emotional issues?
• What does a flowing and integrated YOU manifest to the outer world?
When you are at the mirror, make a facial expression that reflects a spectrum of different parts of you. Find a posture or a movement that reflects some of the different parts of you. Perhaps exaggerate the part just to see it more clearly. Now stare deeply into your eyes and begin the process of consciously distinguishing your essential self from your adapted self. With each expression, ask these questions:
If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, what is my soul saying about the reflection before me? Does this part feel authentic, or does it feel masked? Does the expression feel like a reflection of my true self, or is it something I take on in order to survive or feel comfortable? If I were to emanate directly from my soul, what would I look like? How would I walk? Stand? Breathe? Would my eyes be brighter? Would my smile be more sincere? How would I feel in my body? Who would be staring back at me?
Now ask your self: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the truest ME of all?
Imagine this authentic self—deeply and viscerally.
Feel it in your mind, and in your bones, and in your cells, and infused throughout your entire body.
See it shining forth in the mirror.
The authentic You.
Stunning.
In the coming week, imagine that you are embodying your authentic self. When you need extra support—use the mirror as a guide. Imagine your authentic self walking through life, in all its shining glory. Stand back and watch yourself: how you breathe, how you hold your head, how connected you are to your feet, how you subtly move your body, how deeply and genuinely you can make eye contact with yourself and with others. Play and experiment with your sacred purpose. Imagine, if you can, how you might look, carry yourself, walk, interface with others—if you are embodying your truest path, if you are living all your gifts, if you are growing into your fullness. What do you see? How might your energy be different, how might you look different? Keep experimenting and embodying this—until it begins to become real for you.
