I’ve got a truth-ache! How about you?
Now that we are more fully exploring the question of directionality, let’s revisit a concept that I introduced some weeks ago and that lives at the heart of the quest for sacred purpose: truth aches. In our distracted world, we often know our truth aches more intimately than we know our truths. Because I believe that we are born with an innate directionality that is fundamental to a gratified life, I also believe that our inner knowing continues to nudge us in its direction. Sometimes, that nudging comes in the form of hints and whispers that gently remind us of our mission. At other times, synchronistic events occur that seem to suggest that we are not alone with our knowing—there are forces at play that call us in another direction. They may well be divinely orchestrated, or they may simply be a reflection of our purpose reaching out and summoning what it needs from the world-at-large. And, at other times, we experience indicators that are far more ‘ache-like’ than inviting. In fact, sometimes they are downright painful—noisy, uncomfortable indicators of how far we have strayed from our truest paths.
I define truth aches like this:
“A persistent nudge from within, a symptom of our alienation from true-path, a sign that we are not honoring the sacred purpose encoded in the bones of our being. It can arise in many forms, in its earnest efforts to call us into alignment: physical illness, emotional issues, self-distractive behaviors, a nagging sense of falsity, ceaseless dissatisfaction, a sense of hopelessness, a voice that wakes us up at night fraught with worry. When we don’t adhere, the more persistent the voice will become, and in its extreme forms, may urgently demand change. Although uncomfortable, it is a blessing in disguise, an echo of essence, a call to a deeper and more bonafide path. Better we face it while we still can.”
Truth Aches can show up in relation to any part of our life: where you live, how you live, why you live. Think of them as the voice of intuition that arrives in a myriad of forms to call you back to yourself. They exist because deep inside of you is an awareness of your inherent value. When you deviate from it, that awareness manifests itself until you listen in and take action.
