I miss my heart when it closes
+Free Course—Inner Child Rising: Healing the Effects of Unawakened Parents
At the core of all of my work, are matters of the heart. Not that the soul isn’t a point of primary focus—it surely is—but I can’t shake the belief that we are always a little bit lost if our hearts are closed. I know that I miss my heart when it closes, even if the closing is entirely necessary under the circumstances. We can’t live in this world without a degree of armor, and without protecting our precious vulnerability from a variety of threats and challenges. And yet, the heart is still in there, longing to open, longing to be connected with, longing to call us back to the path of deep feeling. Because deep feeling lives at the heart of a life well-lived. The feel is for real, even if it sometimes stings and makes for a choppy ride.
Because of my heart-centered bias, I always had an issue with any spiritual methodology that bypassed the world of feeling. The tendency to characterize emotions as illusory, the persistent need to deny human victimhood, the emphasis on shaming (and ‘turning around’) our stories until we are no longer comfortable sharing them, leaves us fragmented and bewildered on the trailways of transformation. It’s near impossible to heal, and to learn any lessons at the heart of our experience, if we are not comfortable acknowledging and feeling our feelings.
In this newsletter, I wanted to simply share a number of my writings on the path of the heart. At a time when it is particularly easy to close the heart, I feel it is all the more essential that we continue to remember it. Perhaps one of these quotes will resonate with you, and call you back to your heart at a moment when it most needs to open. I also share a free link to one of my heart-centered articles: Schmaltzing my way to God (yes, that’s really the title! :). It’s interesting to me that I feel almost embarrassed sharing it now... a surefire sign that my heart is more than a little bit closed. I also share a free download option for one of my most popular courses—Inner Child Rising: Healing the Effects of Unawakened Parents. As many of us have found out, it is often those early childhood dynamics—even when our parent or parents were doing their absolute best—that set our closed heart in motion. This 7-week download course may serve your efforts to heal and re-open your beautiful heart…
